The long wait for Fedora 39 is finally over!. Fedora Workstation is officially released and it features GNOME 45 Desktop Environment with many enhancements around usability and performance. With the release of Fedora 39 is Fedora Onyx, which is the Budgie desktop experience in an immutable Fedora Silverblue. As expected in any major release of Fedora Linux, many other packages have been updated to ensure you get the best of free and open source software in your system.
Fedora Linux 39 includes Python 3.12, gcc 13.2, binutils 2.40, glibc 2.38, Rust 1.73, gdb 13.2, rpm 4.19, and many more cool features. Fedora 39 can be downloaded from official project’s website GetFedora.org. Choose the edition to be installed and begin the ISO or Cloud Image download depending on your environment.
This installation is created for ISO based installations – On Baremetal, or a Virtual Machine. If you’ll need installation from USB or CD medium, Fedora Media Writer application is available for creating bootable devices on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Downloading an ISO file
There are a number of ISO files available on Fedora Linux depending on the flavor you choose. The standard base images are Fedora Workstation(Gnome) and Fedora Server(terminal UI).

Begin Fedora 39 installation
The easiest installation method is on a Virtualized environment. Create Virtual Machine template with disk, CPU, and RAM. Then attach the ISO image and begin OS installation. The process is straightforward and mostly involves changing easy values and next next.

In most OS installation there installer will check for RAM, CPU and Disk before process can proceed. This should complete within few seconds.

You’ll be booted into live media from where installation can be started. If you just want to test new features on Fedora 39, choose the option of “Not Now”. By not installing into disk you can play around with it and decide if to commit the OS to hard disk.

Set timezone, Keyboard layout, and disk partitioning depending on the desired use case of the system.

A reboot is needed if the installation was successful. Detach install medium the restart the VM or your computer.

Configure and Use Fedora 39
The next setup will be guided to create admin user and enable some features if needed.

Provide user full names and username for the first account. When integrating with central authentication systems and SSO, Enterprise Login option is the better choice here.

Set strong password assigned to user being created.
