This guide will cover the installation of Zoom Client on Ubuntu 19.04/18.04 and Debian 10/9. Zoom is a powerful, secure and easy to use communication software used for Chats, video conferencing, mobile collaboration, online meetings, and for holding webinars. Zoom can be installed on both Windows and Linux desktops and on mobile devices.

Install Zoom Client on Ubuntu 19.04/18.04 & Debian 10/9

We will download Zoom package for Debian based systems from the Zoom Download Centre and install it with the apt package manager.

If you don’t have the wget command line tool, install it using the command.

sudo apt -y install wget

Once wget is installed, pull the latest release of Zoom package.

 wget https://zoom.us/client/latest/zoom_amd64.deb

Install Zoom client on Ubuntu / Debian using apt command.

sudo apt install ./zoom_amd64.deb

The version of package installed can be confirmed using the following command.

$ apt policy zoom
  Installed: 2.8.252201.0616
  Candidate: 2.8.252201.0616
  Version table:
 *** 2.8.252201.0616 100
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Launch Zoom on Debian / Ubuntu

Launch Zoom client from command line or from Desktop Launcher.

$ zoom

You can then join a meeting with invitation ID or login to Zoom and create meetings, have chats and make Video calls with Zoom.

You now have Zoom client installed on Ubuntu / Desktop Workstation. Enjoy using Zoom for your day-to-day communication with Colleagues and customers.
