I: Textbook

As we all know, AWS official website documents and white papers are regarded as the best textbooks for learning and researching AWS technology. However, there are still some differences between studying technology and passing certification examinations. On the one hand, there are numerous documents, and on the other hand, there is about a month’s preparation time. I must find the most efficient way to complete my AWS study and pass the exam.

After referring to the experience of predecessors who passed the exam on the Internet, I chose AWS Certified Solutions Architect Official Study Guide – Associate Exam published by Sybex.

There are two reasons for choosing this book: 1. I hope to have a systematic introduction to the products that an AWS assistant solution architect needs to know; 2. I have been using   The final exam results prove that this book helps me understand the knowledge that AWS assistant solution architects need to master, sort out the collaboration between these products and be familiar with common application scenarios. However, in the experimental exercise part of this book, there is a problem that the steps are not clearly described and some key information is missing, which needs to be remedied in other ways. I will mention it later.

II: Experiment

To have an intuitive understanding of AWS products, experiments are essential. AWS is relatively bright, allowing users to register an account via email, bind a credit card, and try AWS products for one year for free.

Although it is just a trial account, after logging into the management console, I found that there are many AWS products in it, which is completely sufficient for everyone preparing assistant solution architects.

However, it should be noted that after the experiment is completed, you should remember to terminate the unused instances, otherwise AWS will still deduct the fees from the credit card bound to the account after it has been there for a long time.

As mentioned earlier, the experiment part of the textbook starts from VPC. Some steps are not clearly described and key information is missing, which makes the experiment impossible.

Fortunately, there are many third-party learning platforms on the Internet that also provide AWS experimental scenarios to help us understand AWS product features. During my preparation for the exam, I often used QWIKLABS to provide free experimental scenarios, covering the most basic and commonly used products of AWS, such as IAM, EC2, VPC, ELB, EBS, CloudFront, etc.

III: Exercises

My AWS preparation exercises mainly use two types of exercises: one is the questions after each chapter of the textbook; The other is the question bank that can not be circumvented in certification examination.

In general, the exercises in the back of the textbook are not difficult. They mainly focus on investigating basic concepts, and there are a few simple scene problems.

The difficulty of the question bank is uneven due to various reasons such as source, channel and time. Take the question bank I used for practice as an example. For 500 questions, there are short sentences to ask the concept directly, and there are also 6 or 7 lines of scene questions in English. In order to understand the reasons behind these scene questions, I spent a lot of time checking documents, visiting forums and consulting companies. Although I didn’t encounter such a problem in the exam, I finally did some homework in a down-to-earth manner, without wasting my time.
