Cisco updated the CCNA 200-301 exam objectives to version 1.1 in 2024, adding automation, programmability, and AI networking topics. If you are studying with materials published before mid-2024, you are missing exam content. Both major publishers (Cisco Press and Sybex) released updated second editions.
Two authors dominate CCNA preparation: Wendell Odom (Cisco Press) and Todd Lammle (Sybex). Both produce excellent material with different approaches. Pick the style that matches how you learn best.

CCNA 200-301 Official Cert Guide Library, 2nd Edition
Wendell Odom’s two-volume set is the only Cisco-approved self-study resource for the CCNA. The second edition is updated for exam version 1.1 with new content on automation and AI networking, 600+ practice questions, over 2 hours of video training, and the CCNA Network Simulator Lite with 34 hands-on labs. Odom’s writing is technical and thorough. If you want to understand networking at a deep level (not just pass the exam), this is the way.

CCNA Certification Study Guide Volume 1 and 2 Set, 2nd Edition
Todd Lammle’s Sybex two-volume set is the alternative for people who find Odom too dense. Lammle has a conversational writing style that makes complex networking topics approachable. The second edition (November 2024) covers exam v1.1 including the new automation, programmability, and AI sections. Includes online practice exams, flashcards, and hands-on exercises.
